Driving along the winding, tree-lined streets of Druid Hills, it’s easy to forget that you’re less than fifteen minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Atlanta. Indeed, this historic neighborhood was originally designed in the 1890s as Atlanta’s first suburb by Frederick Law Olmsted (the landscape architect responsible for New York’s Central Park), a haven for the city’s most wealthy and influential families. Today, while the urban sprawl of the metro has long since surrounded this community, Druid Hills’ park-like atmosphere and historic stately homes continue to offer a respite for its inhabitants while its central location gives easy access to the best Atlanta has to offer. Little wonder that Druid Hills remains one of the metro’s most coveted neighborhoods.
EDUCATION
Druid Hills exudes quality of life, all the way down to its schools. Located within the DeKalb County and City of Atlanta School Systems, this community is home to some of the highest rated public schools in the state, not to mention several prestigious private schools, including Paideia, within walking distance of most residences. On the northern side of the neighborhood sits Emory University, one of the most prestigious research schools in the country, and home to the Centers for Disease Control, making Druid Hills a veritable bastion of higher learning and quality of education.
SHOPPING, DINING, ATTRACTIONS
Widely considered the commercial center of Druid Hills, Emory Village is located just south of Emory University, providing plenty of dining and shopping options along a welcoming, walkable stretch of North Decatur Road. In addition to Druid Hills Golf Club in the heart of the neighborhood, numerous parks are scattered throughout the community including the historic Olmsted Linear Parks; popular Piedmont Park and Atlanta Botanical Gardens can be found just west of Druid Hills, with the Fernbank Museum of Natural History on the eastern side. For even more shopping, dining and entertainment choices, you’ll find Virginia Highland, Decatur, Midtown and the many shops and restaurants of Buckhead mere minutes away.
HOMES IN DRUID HILLS
Of course, the biggest reason to move to Druid Hills is the real estate. Many of the original historic mansions still exist on the originally designed acre plus estates, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a street in this community that doesn’t invite you home. As one of the most affluent and in-demand neighborhoods in Atlanta, property values continue to appreciate in Druid Hills, with homes ranging from the mid-$300s on the low end to over $3 million for some of the larger dwellings.
Convenience, luxury, atmosphere, walkability and quality of life. These are the reasons people love living in Druid Hills. Chances are your dream home is here, too.
